Mark Sudol

Mark Sudol brings more than 25 years of senior federal environmental permitting expertise to Dawson, including 5 years as Chief of the Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program. As head of the Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program, Mark oversaw the Corps’ response to two Supreme Court cases: SWANCC and Rapanos. His direct experience has been invaluable in the period after the Sackett decision. Mark began his federal career in the US Navy as an S-3 Flight Officer, spending 10 years flying and completing nearly 200 carrier landings. His military service taught him the importance of making timely decisions and gave him significant leadership experience. After his time in the military, Mark returned to academia to gain advanced degrees at UCLA, earning a Masters’ degree and completing his Doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering. After his time at Headquarters, Mark moved to the Institute for Water resources, the Corps’ policy think tank and worked on data management including hydropower as well as national water policy.
