Marine Energy Workshop: Operations, Management, and Safety in the Water
Open ocean and near-shore device deployments are increasing across the U.S. marine energy industry. While the range of deployments are unique, and frequently novel, in installation and operation of a marine energy device, the planning of these deployments should identify all inherent operational risk – especially to people.
This workshop, led by representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO), will focus on best practices and lessons learned, not just when it comes to installation, operation, and maintenance (IO&M), but also when it comes to minimum quality health, safety, and environment (QHSE) requirements for deployed devices.
Workshop attendees will discuss existing international best practices for marine installations, some lessons learned in operations, and expectations for in sea deployments at PacWave. In addition, they will have the opportunity to provide feedback on a minimum QHSE requirements document that WPTO will share to increase safety in all sea funded projects.
