Alan Michaels
Role: Emcee
Alan has been in his current role for over two years. Prior to his employment at NYPA, Alan worked at the New York Department of Public Service for ten years. At DPS, he was an Assistant Counsel where he primarily worked on wholesale electricity and interstate gas pipeline matters. He became Manager of Wholesale Affairs, and in that capacity he was the liaison between executives and Department Staff subject matter experts, sharing information and coordinating State representation before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Before his experience in the energy markets, he was an enforcement attorney at the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, where he was the Department's lead counsel on the prosecution and cleanup of the largest oil spill in New York's history. Before his employment with the State of New York, Alan was in private practice with a litigation firm, and before that he was a criminal prosecutor for Rhode Island. Alan's passion is working with young people; in his free time, he is a Scoutmaster, coach, and the founder and advisor of his local high school's chapter of the YMCA's Youth and Government. To clear his mind, he runs marathons. His wife supports him through all of these extracurricular activities, and their mutual focus is their enjoyment of their two teenage sons. Alan presently serves as the Chair of the New York Transmission Owners' Technical Committee, Chair of the NHA Markets Committee, and Co-Chair of the NHA Grid Valuation Subcommittee.
