Connecting the Ocean to the Grid: Key Infrastructure for Marine Energy Integration

Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Room Number: Senate
Day: 3/31/2025

Advancing marine energy from demonstration to utility-scale projects requires robust infrastructure to connect marine-generated power to consumer grids. This session will explore what’s needed to achieve successful marine energy integration—focusing on subsea cables, connectors, and interconnection systems.

Through real-world examples of operational sites serving a range of power levels—from microgrids to full-scale grid integration—attendees will gain insights into key technical considerations, deployment challenges, and lessons learned.

The session will also address policy and regulatory frameworks needed to support infrastructure development and enable a reliable, resilient, and scalable marine energy industry.

Participants will come away with a clearer understanding of the essential building blocks for connecting marine energy to shore and the steps required to make it a viable part of the nation’s energy mix.
