Tuesday May 9, 2023
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
What is Advocacy Day?
Advocacy Day is an opportunity for you to have face-to-face meetings in Congressional offices on Capitol Hill with lawmakers and their staff to share experiences in the hydropower, pumped storage, and marine energy industries.
Despite the fact that waterpower accounted for 6.3% of US electricity production and 31.5% of renewable power production in 2021, waterpower is sometimes overlooked as a clean energy resource.
By meeting and connecting with Members of Congress and their staff, we can raise waterpower’s profile and advance policies that will allow our industry to flourish.
Raise your voice to your Congressional representatives!
What do attendees need to do?
Click below for the easy instructions on how to request meeting(s) with your Members of Congress for the morning of Tuesday, May 9.
During Advocacy Day, you’ll have time for meeting with two or three different offices, each lasting about 30 minutes.
Once confirmed, attend your meeting(s) and share your stories with Members of Congress and their staff.
What to expect?
Meeting with Members of Congress and their staff is a worthwhile experience and is not as intimidating or difficult as one may think. Members of Congress are excited to learn about what their constituents are working on. Staffers are often interested in hearing about advances in technologies such as pumped storage or marine energy.
Industry representatives report that advocating makes them feel like their voices are heard and government works for them. We look forward to you having a similar experience.
NHA will equip you with talking points in advance of your meeting(s) and materials to leave behind at offices.
